Paul Bunn

Paul is the self-confessed Portuguese history buff of the team. Portugal’s significance in world history cannot be understated, but it’s sadly overlooked outside of the country itself. With our personalised holidays to the mainland, to Madeira and to the Azores we try to give you a feel for where Portugal’s been, where they are now and (hopefully) where the country’s heading in the future – immersing you in Portugal’s rich cultural heritage.

My favourite activity in São Tomé & Príncipe

Join us on our guided walking holidays on São Tomé and Príncipe.

Walks vary from ‘easy’ around your roca, which can take 2/3 hours  to ‘moderate’ around Bombaim in the interior. These normally take 4/5 hours.

However, for the adventurous we have more challenging multi-day trekking on São Tomé which cross the island from west to the east. These more physically challenging treks through the rain forest include an overnight camp, a climb to the highest peak, Pico de São Tomé (2024 m), and a chance to see rare orchids and spot endemic birds.

On Principe, there are some equally interesting and challenging walks and treks where you can hike to the highest point or do more gentle walks like Morro Leste which can be very interesting for bird watchers.

My favourite accommodation in São Tomé & Príncipe

The amazing Roca  Belo Monte is a breath-taking boutique hotel on the site of an old plantation.

Its elegant manor house, holds three individual suites all with their own guest lounge and tea terraces. A private chef and butler services can also be arranged. The nearby hospital and animal stables have also been restored and transformed into luxury rooms.

All rooms have telephone, private bathroom, A/C, Wifi and satellite TV. It has its’ own five beaches, including the world-famous Banana beach and free beach shuttles as well as an outdoor pool perfect for sipping cocktails at. The restaurant / bar overlooks the Bay of Santa Rita and serves a fusion of international and local cuisine.
